Central Oregon on Fire again

There are times we do not even have to leave Snowshoe Inn for an adventure.  A series of Thunder storms have started multiple forest fires in Central Oregon.  At the moment none are any were near Snowshoe Inn.  This could change at any time with a sleeper fire waking up.  Wednesday the air was full of smoke, Thursday the winds had changed from out of the west and air was clear here in Bend, Friday I woke to blue smoke haze and hard to know what the rest of the day will bring.  Weather has been cooling off to more normal temperatures 38 degrees this morning at Snowshoe Inn.

The air was so nice and clear for us in Bend on Thursday 7/17/2014, but sorry for those north and east.   Bobbe and I have a view point north of Snowshoe Inn called Triangle peak.  We can see much of the surrounding area from there the remaining photos were taken from there on 7/17/2014 about 5 pm.  Below is the same fire from Triangle Peak. We will see what today and the future brings.
Note smoke coming from west around the base of Mt. Hood

6/28-29/14 Oregon's Out Back Revisited, Cabn Lake, Hole in the Ground

Remains of Cabin Creek CG sign.

Our sixth trip of 2014 was based at Rock Horse Park near Fort Rock, Oregon.  Distances are relative in Eastern Oregon.   The camp was only 62 miles from Bend which was a short trip.   We choose a hook up, water and electricity, Oh, yes WiFi.  After setting up we jumped into Suzuki and off on an adventure seeking new areas to visit in Eastern Oregon.  Saturday's drive was to Cabin Lake area.  Cabin Lake was a USFS ranger station for the Fort Rock District from 1922 to 1940's.  The compound is fenced and gated off and old campground was nearly gone. A few old picnic tables and stone fire pits.  We say one large group in tents and another solitary tent in the area.

This is an old pump building, not much left but interesting, found a geocache a few hundred feet away.  nice flat camping spot near by.  It is located on the edge of pine and sagebrush vegetation types.
Very small wild daises located in sage brush desert area.  so many interesting plants if you look carefully at the right time of the year.
Oregon Sunshine.  easy to see when you look in the correct places.
Bobbe at a new geocache out in the desert.  nice walk about .16 mile from road, not much wild life in the area, we did see a few cows and calves but not like the Ochoco Mts.
I can not rember where I took this photo but an iteresting rock.  Looks like it was one large rock that fractured into several smaller rocks.  So much to see in Central & Eastern Oregon with in a few hours of our home in Bend, Oregon.

More wild flowers in bloom this week
Lots of paint brush near hole in the ground.  In some areas it was every were .

Every time we stop, and other times Bobbe grabs her book and reads.  It is one of her addictions.
